Notice to the reader: The Ontario Research and Development Expenditure Deduction ceased to be in effect as of January 1, 2009. This incentive was replaced by the Ontario Research and Development Tax Credit for expenditures incurred after December 31, 2008.

The Ontario Research and Development Expenditure Deduction allows corporations to exclude from Ontario taxable income the portion of the federal investment tax credit that relates to qualifying Ontario Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) expenditures through Ontario pool calculation on CT23 Schedule 161.

How to Apply

To claim, complete CT23 Schedule 161 [PDF - 718 KB] and enter the amount on Line 679 of the tax return.
