How is my tax information protected in ONT-TAXS online?
The Ministry of Finance uses the Ontario government's secure online registration service, ONe-key to protect your tax information when using ONT-TAXS online. To use ONe-key and ONT-TAXS online, your browser must support 128-bit encryption.
You can also play an important role in safeguarding your tax information when using ONT-TAXS online by:
- Keeping your ONe-key ID and password a secret
- Creating a unique password and verification questions
- Logging out of ONT-TAXS online after each session
What is ONe-key?
ONe-key is the Ontario government's secure online registration service. ONe-key verifies a user's identity, authorizes their access and protects the security of their information when doing business with the government online. Once you've completed the one-time registration for ONe-key you can use the same ID and password to access online programs available through ONe-key, including ONT-TAXS online.
Do I create my own ONe-key ID and password?
Yes. To protect your security, you choose your own unique ONe-key ID and password. From the Ministry of Finance site, select Login to ONe-key. Then, select New User and follow the online instructions to create your ONe-key ID and password. Remember, you only need to complete the ONe-key registration the first time you access ONT-TAXS online.
How do I access ONT-TAXS online?
Once you have created your ONe-key ID and password you are ready to set up your access to ONT-TAXS online through the ONe-key service. To do this you will need a Web Access Code and Personal Identification Number (PIN).
What is a Web Access Code and Personal Identification Number (PIN)?
Your Web Access Code and PIN are the security information that the ministry mails to you when you first sign up for ONT-TAXS online. You will receive your Web Access Code and PIN in separate mailings for security purposes. You will need this information to set up your access to ONT-TAXS online through the ONe-key service. My Personal Identification Number (PIN) expired. What should I do?
To receive a new PIN by mail call us at 1 866 ONT-TAXS (1 866 668-8297). Your Web Access Code also expires with your PIN and will be reissued at the same time.
