Wayne Arthurs, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance

Wayne Arthurs was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. Arthurs has served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance.

Previously, he served as mayor of Pickering since 1988 and as a member of council since 1982. Arthurs chaired the Durham Regional Planning Committee and is a former chair of the Regional Finance and Administration Committee. He was a board member of the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation, the Ajax/Pickering Transit Authority, the Durham Region Non-Profit Housing Corporation, the Greater Toronto Marketing Alliance, Veridian Corporation and vice-chair of the Canadian Association of Nuclear Host Communities.

He sat on several city committees, including the Race Relations and Equity Committee and the Waterfront Co-ordinating Committee and was the ex-officio member of others. As a member of Durham Region Council, Arthurs served on three of the four regional standing committees. Arthurs was also a member of the board of directors of the Ajax-Pickering Hospital Foundation and a member of the Pickering Hydro Commission, the Greater Toronto Services Board, the Mayors and Chairs Committee of the Greater Toronto Area, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, the Pickering Museum Village Advisory Committee and the Pickering Public Library Board.

Arthurs and his wife, Susan, have raised their family of four in Pickering and are proud grandparents of seven. Arthurs and his wife began their careers in teaching. Arthurs earned an Honours BA at York University and a BEd at the University of Toronto.
